| Charlie Dent thanks all who worked for his victory, and renews commitment to fiscal restraint and economic opportunity
Congressman Charlie Dent issued the following statement to his supporters following his re-election to Congress Tuesday night. Congressman Dent won the election by 15 points over his main challenger.
"I'm standing here as the people's choice for Congress in the 15th District because of you - your dedication, you commitment and your trust are what have carried the day.
"I cannot express how honored I am to be entrusted with the responsibility to continue to serve as this district's representative.
"But tonight is about more than a political victory. Tonight is about getting our country back on track. Because make no mistake we need to change course.
"We see that when people are losing their homes, losing their jobs and struggling to make ends meet. This has to change.
"Our region has been through tough times before. We know the truth - there is no such thing as 'Too Big to Fail' and we can't continue to allow the government to enact crippling policies that impose a restrictive environment best described as 'too small to succeed.'
"The good news is there is nothing wrong with our community or America that we cannot change for the better. In tough times here, it has always been the strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit and innovation of our fellow citizens that has allowed us to get back on our feet - stronger, wiser and more ready to face challenges than ever.
"In this past Congress my job has been to stand up for you against job-killing policies that take us in the wrong direction.
"I am here to tell you tonight that in this new Congress I look forward to supporting constructive policies that will control spending, limit the role of government, enhance our freedoms, protect our homeland and unleash the true power of America - our people and our innovative ideas - that will lead to more jobs.
"We cannot let the energy that we have seen here today in the 15th District and across the country dissipate. The people are involved and engaged and are making sensible demands of their government - this must continue. If it only lasts for Election Day then nothing will really change.
"Stay involved, stay informed and stay in touch with me. And I promise, I will listen because a leader needs to lead - but a leader had better know how to listen.
"In closing I just want to say a few words. I want to thank my lovely wife Pam for all her love and support. She puts up with a lot - in every way. I want to thank my children, Kathryn, William and Jack.
"I also want to thank my dedicated staff who work so hard to help me serve you and who do such a great job helping meet the needs of people of our area. I couldn't do it without them.
"I want thank my campaign staff for all that they have done over the last year.
"Finally, I would like to dedicate this year's campaign to a dear friend and mentor who passed away recently - someone many of you know - Charlie Roberts.
"Right now, Charlie is probably looking down and cheering our successes tonight. We miss you Charlie and wish you could be here.
"Again, thank you all. I am humbled and honored by your support.”
