JOHN CALLAHAN SUPPORTS THEIR $862 BILLION STIMULUS BILL AND THEIR $2.6 TRILLION HEALTH CARE TAKEOVER.
If you want further proof that Callahan would go to Washington and support their job killing agenda, just look at Mayor Callahan’s record:
Four Straight Property Tax Hikes.
Callahan raised property taxes four times, including the biggest single tax hike in 20 years. Proof: Morning Call 12/21/05, Bethlehem City Budgets FY 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006
Big Spending and Budget Deficits.
Callahan has raised spending in Bethlehem by 54% since he became mayor. He claims to have balanced six straight Bethlehem budgets, but an independent audit shows that he ran budget deficits in 2008 and 2009. In just two years, Callahan ran up a total deficit of $8.5 million. Former Mayor Don Cunningham says Callahan is running the city "in the red" with "zero cash reserves." A Democrat City Councilman called Callahan’s mismanagement a "financial disaster."
Proof: The Express-Times 8/12/10 and the Morning Call 8/11/10 and 9/1/10.
Broken Promise to Taxpayers.
In 2005, Callahan promised to use revenues from casino gambling for an immediate property tax cut, then turned around, and opposed a property tax cut for homeowners. It’s been five years and Callahan hasn’t cut property taxes by a single dime.
Proof: Morning Call 4/21/2005 and 2/15/07
But what really makes John Callahan a typical politician? He not only raised property taxes 4 years in a row — he raised his own pay.
Proof: Morning Call 2/2/2005
John Callahan. Tax Hikes. Deficit Spending.
Broken Promises. TYPICAL.
